Southwest Art - Santa Fe Style

"Sweet Dreams" - Open Edition

This is the bedroom that I was dreaming of a few years ago.  Sometimes visitors are surprised to learn that quilts can be part of southwest style.  Consider that as the settlers in the east moved to the west they brought with them, pieces of their own heritage.

These pieces from home were mixed with Native American culture, and the Spanish, then was mixed with the Irish, the German and the Victorian.  Well, you get the idea.  Santa Fe style is also based on the moral tenent that it is one's responsibility to make do with what one  has.  Furniture was painted to match, using what ever paint was available at the time.  Sometimes paint was mixed by color, just because that was what was available.  So as you look at Santa Fe style, and think about your own home, remember that every does not have to match.
